Behind the Scenes with Cobweb:
An Interview with Elly Kloppe

by Marja Kettner

Elly Kloppe is part of the team of Germans who've been working on developing a Wraeththu LARP (live action roll playing) group, as well as a series of Wraeththu character photos to be published. She plays Cobweb (the only har to be played by a female) and has also been involved in a lot of the make-up work. Here she is interviewed by Marja Kettner, head of the LARP project. Below are pictures of Elly at work with the models & actors.

How did you first find the Wraeththu books and what about them appealed to you?

I found the books through you and our friend Tobi, and what should I say except I read them and could never put them down. I was very moved by all the interlocking stories and of course the very erotic scenes and the feel of magic. In addition it's one of the most beautiful love stories I've ever read, if also quite tragic.

Elly as Cobweb Parasiel

Your character, Cobweb, is quite unusual. Can you draw any parallels to your life?

Parallels? Sorry, but I have to smile here, because I sometimes think I didn't seek out the character, but rather that the character sought me out. Naturally I wouldn't say that my life complete like the characters, but there are some parallels, yes.

What don't you like about Cobweb?

I've never really thought about it. Maybe I can come up with something... but probably not.

Do you believe in Cobweb's magic?

Naturally. Magic lives a lot more through belief.

How you you imagine the next year? Have you had contact with any more models / actors?

I think next year is going to be a complete surprise, since at this point I can't imagine Wraeththu changing my life ever more! Contact with other actors? I guess you could say that, because I did that photo shoot with you and got to be a "stand in" for Orga Helfe, so I could hardly avoid that. Honestly for the most part I'm around quite ordinary boys.

Do you have say over the costumes?

Would I want that? But if I could...?

Have you developed any friendships through the Wraeththu LARP project?

Several close friendships, to Cal/Gerrit, and a very beautiful friendship with Pell/Sven.

How do the photo shoots go?

Sometimes for the ones outside we had to use a bag to stay dry, and sometimes we'd get very wet.

Can you imagine, next year to be meeting Storm at a con?

Yes, I'm definitely organizing it, and I will be in Germany about 99 percent of the time, so I won't miss it.
