There Is Mist
by Derek Scefonas

There is mist

And of course, of course
There is something blue

I learned at the sound,
Instead of sinking deeper

And after my elevation

Now permitted a smile

Just as the great wheels begin to turn
The specter scarcely moves

And the ribbons
Which hold the mask
At the base of the animal’s skull
Are intertwined, like horns-transcribed
An expression on a face

And the smaller ones
Were slight
Lying prone
The edge of planting

And then
There you are
Almost
"I am ready"

But it has another danger
Forged in bits of bronze
Where the door has opened

For its third time

And I am glad for this company
Upon hearing the first time
Of flower

And when the hunt has closed
-Horizon drops-
To mark this moment
